At Stony Brook, LI Manufacturing Extension Partnership Rebrands
The Long Island Manufacturing Extension Partnership (LIMEP) at Stony Brook University is rebranding, with new leadership and expanded services.
A federally recognized Manufacturing Extension Partnership center, LIMEP was formerly known as the Manufacturing & Technology Resource Consortium at Stony Brook University. It aims to support the region’s small and mid-sized manufacturers, providing expertise in helping organizations achieve innovation, competitiveness and growth.
LIMEP’s new executive director is Amy Erickson, who brings 20 years of manufacturing experience. Erickson is an engineer who brings expertise in process optimization and lean manufacturing principles, having worked with various manufacturing sectors on Long Island throughout her career.
Erickson joined the organization several months ago, and under her direction, increased its MEP impact survey score from 40 to 100.
“While our rebranding is a visual representation of this new era, the bigger change for LIMEP is our operational transformation,” Erickson said in a news release about the rebranding.
“Our new approach is defined by an unwavering commitment to providing the technical expertise, hands-on support, and tailored solutions manufacturers need to overcome challenges and seize opportunities,” Erickson said. “We’re excited to build upon our recent successes and continue partnering closely with local companies to drive profitable growth and regional economic vitality.”
The organization’s team members work alongside clients, conducting facility walkthroughs, in-depth assessments, and collaborative project implementation to deliver measurable outcomes. They provide manufacturers with the focused attention and practical support necessary to optimize operations, increase productivity and achieve business goals.
New services include expertise in carbon footprint reduction and sustainability, lean manufacturing optimization, assistance with adopting and integrating advanced technologies and workforce development strategies.
“These new offerings reflect our commitment to empowering local manufacturing companies with the tools, best practices, and support they need to succeed in a rapidly evolving landscape,” Erickson said.
“By leveraging our exclusive MEP designation, we’re connecting Long Island manufacturers to a powerful network of resources, expertise, and funding opportunities to fuel growth and innovation, helping become more competitive, innovative and resilient,” she said.
LIMEP offers access to resources from the National Institute of Standards and Technology within the U.S. Department of Commerce, the statewide New York MEP network, and Empire State Development’s Division of Science, Technology, and Innovation. LIMEP facilitates collaborations between manufacturers, industry associations, technology partners and economic development organizations. Established by Stony Brook University, LIMEP also assists manufacturers in navigating the robust research resources offered by the university.
“By leveraging the university’s vast research capabilities and collaborating with LIMEP’s industry experts, manufacturers on Long Island will be able to accelerate the development and adoption of advanced technologies, position themselves at the forefront of their respective fields,” Kevin Gardner, vice president for research at Stony Brook University, said in the news release. “LIMEP’s expanded services will foster innovation, support the growth of the manufacturing sector and contribute to the long-term competitiveness of Long Island’s economy.”
