Jonathan Plessis-Belair is a molecular neurobiologist specializing in neurodegenerative diseases. He earned his PhD in neuroscience in Dr. Roger Sher's lab, where he investigated nucleocytoplasmic transport as a molecular mechanism underlying neurodegeneration in human and mouse models.

As a postdoctoral researcher, Jonathan continues to explore shared pathogenic mechanisms driving ALS, Alzheimer's disease, and Parkinson's disease, utilizing iPSC-derived, disease-relevant neuronal differentiations.

Why I chose to join Stony Brook IRACDA : I joined the Stony Brook IRACDA program because I wanted to be part of a supportive, diverse community that values both research and teaching. I’m excited to grow as an educator through the program’s mix of scientific training and pedagogy, and to use those tools to make science more accessible, especially to the communities I come from.
