Assistant Professor of Practice

Required Qualifications

MFA in Theater Arts - Dramaturgy, Acting, or Directing.  Strong record of excellence in teaching (minimum of 3 years) the practice of theater or communication in higher education settings.  Strong record of outreach programming (minimum of 3 years).  Experience in curriculum development.  Experience training instructors and trainers in new curriculum(s).  Knowledge of or experience with Alda Center courses and/or workshops.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience collaborating with science communication content area experts and assessment specialists.  Professional theater experience.  Quality teaching of senior researchers and/or medical professionals.

Responsibilities & Requirements

The Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science is seeking a Visiting Assistant Professor to serve as the Improvisation Curriculum Leader with a special expertise in theater, improvisation training, and a strong understanding of the cultures of science and medicine.  The successful candidate will be responsible for creation, development, implementation and training of improvisation curriculum in the Alda Center; teach graduate and undergraduate courses; co-manage improvisation training for the Alda Center certified instructors; recruit and train improvisation instructors; and travel to deliver workshops in the Alda Center and other relevant conferences.  Candidates should have a background in professional theater training and practice, experience in community outreach, and significant teaching experience and the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Special Notes

This is a non-tenure track position.  FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.  Internal and external search to occur simultaneously.  Anticipated Start Date: As soon as possible.
