Brenda MacArthur

Brenda Hoffman is Assistant Professor of Practice in the Department of Communication and Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science. She serves as the department’s undergraduate and graduate program directors and basic course director for public speaking. 

Brenda's research is translational and explores leadership training and development in educational and health contexts. She is particularly interested in how interpersonal relationships impact organizations, and the role of communication training programs in improving professional relationships and organizational outcomes. Her work explores topics such as organizational socialization, professional identity formation, interdisciplinary teams, mentoring, teacher misbehaviors, hidden curriculum, and student learning and assessment.

She teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in science, health, and risk communication, team science, and research methods.

Brenda holds a PhD in Health Communication from George Mason University, an MA in Communication Studies from Texas State University, and a BA in Communication from Bryant University.
