Professor Li uses experimental approaches, geochemical modeling, and synchrotron X-ray techniques to study water-rock interactions in energy and environmental applications. Example topics include:

  • Biogeochemical reactions during underground gas/energy/waste storage
  • Fate and transport of contaminants and nutrients in groundwater and soil
  • Mineral dissolution, nucleation, and precipitation
  • Coupling of chemical and mechanical alterations of rocks
  • Reactive transport in porous media
