Subject: Important Weather and Campus Services Updates
Dear Seawolves,
As announced this afternoon in this campuswide message, all classes are cancelled tomorrow, Monday, February 23. This includes both in-person and online classes as well as in-person events.
Tonight and the overnight hours will see the heaviest snow and high winds. Weather conditions will be dangerous, so avoid going outside or traveling during the blizzard due to the potential for hazardous sidewalk and road conditions.
Suffolk County has issued a travel ban in Suffolk County beginning at 9 pm tonight through 9 pm on Monday, with the exception of essential workers, so please do not leave your home during this time.
Information for Residential Students:
If you are living on campus, please contact your building staff for any housing-related issues. RAs are on duty until 8:30 am on Monday morning. Apartment Area Offices will be open from 8:30 am - 5 pm on Monday. You can also visit or call your RHD at their office. Visit the Residential Community Contacts website for your Apartment Area Office or RHD’s phone number.
Dining Information:
- Please plan ahead by taking to-go meals and snack bags from East Side and West Side diningbefore 8 pm tonightin case you are unable to leave your residence hall/apartment tomorrow.
- East Side and West Side dining will be open tomorrow (Monday) from 9 am - 8 pm. Please check stonybrook.edu/dining for details.
- Ensure you have adequate food in your room. Because of the storm, meal delivery services may be limited or unavailable, so we encourage you not to rely on delivery options.
Facilities Early Closure Update for Sunday:
- The Student Activities Center (SAC), the Stony Brook Union and the Walter J. Hawrys Recreation Center will all close at 5 pm today.
Facilities Closure Update for Monday:
- The Student Activities Center (SAC), the Stony Brook Union and the Walter J. Hawrys Recreation Center will be closed on Monday.
- Student Health Services and Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) will be closed on Monday. Students should use TimelyCare, the free 24/7 virtual care for medical or mental health care. In the event of an emergency, call University Police at (631) 632-3333.
- For information about other campus offices and services, please visit their respective websites.
Residential Fitness Centers and Library Hours:
- Resident students can visit the Residential Fitness Centers on Monday and Tuesday from 7 am-noon and 6 pm - 11 pm.
- The Central and North Reading Rooms in Melville Library will be open from 12 noon - midnight on Monday. The Health Sciences Library is accessible 24 hours with SBU ID. For more information, visit library.stonybrook.edu.
