Subject: Support and Resources for the End of the Academic Year

Dear Stony Brook Community,

As we move through these final weeks of the semester, we are reminded that this can be one of the most demanding and emotional times of the academic year for all members of the Stony Brook community. Students are balancing final exams, projects, deadlines, and important next steps. Faculty and staff are managing the many responsibilities that come with supporting our students while also navigating their own end-of-semester demands.

For our students preparing to graduate, congratulations. We are proud of all you have accomplished and look forward to celebrating this milestone with you. For those continuing their journey, we recognize the persistence and resilience it takes to keep moving forward. And to our faculty and staff, thank you for the care, dedication, and steady support you bring to this community each day.

This season often brings a mix of emotions, pride, anticipation, fatigue, stress, and uncertainty. Wherever you find yourself right now, please know that you are a valued part of this community and you do not have to navigate challenges alone. If this moment feels heavier than usual, or you know someone who is struggling, please reach out. Below is an overview of the many Stony Brook resources available to support students, faculty, and staff.

Student Resources

Student Support Team, located on the 1st floor of the Union, is a great first stop if you’re not sure where to go. This team of caring professionals will listen to your concerns, help problem-solve with you, and connect you with resources to support your success. To connect with the Student Support Team, call (631) 632-7320 or email student_supportteam@stonybrook.edu.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), located on the 2nd floor of the Student Health and Counseling Center, provides caring, confidential in-person individual and group counseling. To connect with a counselor, call (631) 632-6720.

TimelyCare’s TalkNow offers free, 24/7 on-demand, virtual access to speak confidentially with a counselor anytime, day or night, about anything on your mind. You can also schedule free 1:1 counselor appointments on the TimelyCare app.

CAPS Crisis 24/7 Line can be reached at (631) 632-6720 anytime day or night if you are feeling distressed and need to speak with a crisis counselor.

Faculty and Staff Resources

Ombuds Office provides a confidential, impartial, and informal resource where members of the Stony Brook University and Stony Brook Medicine community can discuss concerns, explore options, and seek guidance for resolving workplace or campus-related issues.

Employee Assistance Program provides a confidential resource designed to enhance the overall well-being of our faculty and staff.  To connect with EAP, call (631) 632-6085 or email eap@stonybrook.edu.

Response Crisis Center is available 24/7 if you are in urgent need to speak with someone about a mental health concern. Call (631) 751-7500.

We are continually inspired by — and proud of — how our Seawolf community reflects the shared values of care and compassion. As we close the academic year, let’s continue to support one another and work together to keep Stony Brook a place where everyone can thrive.
