Information for Accepted SOAR Students
Congratulations on your recent acceptance into the Stony Brook University SOAR program! We are excited to have you join us.
You can visit this page for information about FAQs.
Coursework and Job FAQs
- No, students cannot take a summer course while participating in SOAR. Students should not enroll in virtual or asynchronous classes while participating in SOAR.
- Students must request permission before accepting additional employment. Jobs should not interfere with required SOAR events, and should not keep participants from their required laboratory responsibilities (typically 9-5 on weekdays).
- SOAR program administrators will register all SOAR participants for a 0 credit class, CHE 487, during the summer. Campus residences requires students to be registered for a course in order to stay in housing.
- SOAR students do not need to pay course fees or student fees during the summer they are participating in the program. If you see a fee appear in SOLAR, let the SOAR team know, and we will work with SBU to get the fee waived.
Housing FAQs
- There is an additional fee per day for students who want to stay in campus housing in-between graduation and start of SOAR, and the students are responsible for the cost. SOAR cannot pay for any additional nights in campus housing outside of the program dates.
- Accepted students should complete the SOAR Housing Requests form to let us know if you need to stay in housing before or after the program dates, or to let us know if you have any additional housing requests.
If you do NOT need campus housing before or after the SOAR program dates:
-
- Go to the End-of-Semester Form and proceed as a regular check-out (24 hours after
your last exam). Do NOT indicate that you have summer housing on the End-of-Semester
Form. You do NOT need to fill out a summer housing application.
