Maka Screening

Maka is a thought-provoking documentary that chronicles the extraordinary journey of Geneviève Makaping — an anthropologist, journalist, and the first Black woman to serve as editor-in-chief of an Italian newspaper. (Italy, 2023, 52 mins, Italian/English with subtitles | Dir. Elia Moutamid). Director Elia Moutamid and screenwriter Simone Brioni will be present at the screening. More information.

In Christ in Concrete, blacklisted director Edward Dmytryk delivers a searing and poetic portrait of working-class struggle, adapted from Pietro Di Donato’s acclaimed novel. Congratulations to Emily DiCesare

Emily DiCesare, a soon-to-be Junior in the Biochemistry Program at Stony Brook University, has been awarded the Rube Family Scholarship in honor of Jennifer Rube by the Vincent Lombardi Lodge #2270 of the Order of the Sons and Daughters of Italy in Rochester, New York. During the Fall 2024 semester, she served as Teaching Fellow in Christine Griffiths' SBU 101 course and visited the Center for Italian Studies on a regular basis. Emily is a strong student, encouraging mentor, and aspiring doctor! Congratulations, Emily!
