Political Science Undergraduate Awards and Scholarships
Below are the criteria for scholarships and awards given by the Department of Political Science. Applications are accepted annually for each scholarship or award, due by the posted deadline. If a deadline has passed, applications may not be submitted, and applicants will have to wait until the following year to apply.

Robert Clasen Scholarship
Criteria:
- All class standings eligible (U1-U4).
- Minimum GPA of 3.00 for SBU coursework.
- Major in Political Science.
- Full-time matriculation.
- Demonstrate financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship Services.
- Demonstrate potential and promise in the subject matter, as evidenced by a reference and personal statement.
Recipient must maintain criteria for scholarship eligibility.
2025-2026 Amount: $2,100

Davidson Family Scholarship
Criteria:
- Must be a Junior (U3) or Senior (U4).
- Minimum GPA of 3.00 for SBU coursework.
- Preferably majoring in Political Science.
- Be a veteran of the armed forces of the United States or Coastguard that has served on active duty, as verified by the Office of Veterans Affairs.
Recipient must maintain criteria for scholarship eligibility.
2025-2026 Amount: $2,400

Mark Herzinger Scholarship in Political Science
Criteria:
- All class standings eligible (U1-U4).
- Must be enrolled full-time as an undergraduate in the College of Arts and Sciences.
- Must be a POL major, or have completed POL coursework at SBU.
- Demonstrate high academic achievement.
- Be in good academic standing.
Recipient must maintain criteria for scholarship eligibility.
2025-2026 Amount: $5,000

Harsh Bhasin Political Science Endowed Scholarship
Criteria:
- All class standings eligible (U1-U4).
- Must be enrolled full-time as an undergraduate in the College of Arts and Sciences.
- Must be a POL major.
- Demonstrate good academic achievement.
- Demonstrate financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship Services.
- Preference will be given to students who plan to pursue a career in diplomacy or foreign service.
Recipient must maintain criteria for scholarship eligibility.

Martin B. Travis Political Science Award
Criteria:
- All class standings eligible (U1-U4).
- Minimum GPA of 3.00 for SBU coursework.
- Major in Political Science.
- Full-time matriculation.
- Demonstrate potential and promise in the subject matter, as evidenced by a reference and personal statement.
2026 Amount: $6,500

Irene "Billie" Segal Political Science Excellence Award
Criteria:
- All class standings eligible (U1-U4).
- Full-time matriculation.
- Demonstrate high academic achievement.
- Be a major or minor in Political Science, or have completed coursework in the Department of Political Science.
- Demonstrate potential and promise in the subject matter, as evidenced by your resume and a personal statement.
2026 Amount: $5,000
