Center of Excellence

Grant from the National Institute of Mental Health

In September 2008, Prof. Greg Hajcak (PI), in collaboration with Prof. Joanne Davila (Co-I) were awarded a “Center of Excellence” Grant from the National Institute of Mental Health for the development of a scientist-practitioner program of excellence in exposure-based interventions for anxiety disorders. This grant established the Stony Brook University Anxiety Disorders Clinic (http://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/psychology/special_facilities/adc/) as a Center of Excellence, with a training program that can serve as a model for other programs and provide dissemination of knowledge to the professional community. The grant supported the development of a curriculum that provides clinical psychology graduate students with broad training that focuses on the conceptual and empirical bases of exposure-based therapy for anxiety disorders, that integrates research and practice at all stages of training, and that provides trainees with skills necessary for effective dissemination of evidence-based approaches.
