Undergraduate Awards


Jesse Tepper Award

  • The Jesse Tepper award, which is a minimum of $1,000 granted annually, is meant to recognize an undergraduate who has used Sociology to further the public good, whether through public service or applied sociological research.  Applicants must be Sociology majors and have a minimum GPA of 2.5.  They must demonstrate leadership qualities through involvement and active participation in campus or community service.

Norman "Norm" Goodman Endowment Excellence Award in Sociology

This endowed award will provide annual $1,000 cash awards for two Sociology students:

  • A full-time undergraduate major who "demonstrates high academic achievement as deined by Stony Brook policy and who demonstrates achievement, experience or commitment to academic excellence, leadership or community service as reported through the application process.

Undergraduate Outstanding Academic Achievement Award

  • Three awards of up to $150 are given annually to graduating Sociology majors who have demonstrated academic excellence through high GPAs.
