U.N.I.T.I. Cultural Center

Established in 1978, the UNITI Cultural Center (UCC) is rooted in a mission reflected by its name—United Nationalities in Transcending Ideologies. The UCC is dedicated to advancing cultural diversity, inclusion, and equity at Stony Brook University. Construction of the center was made possible through a New York State grant initiated by Stony Brook alumnus Carl E. Heastie ’90, Speaker of the New York State Assembly.

The UNITI Cultural Center provides students with meaningful opportunities to engage with peers, faculty, and staff through cultural programming and dialogue centered on contemporary social issues. These include the intersections of race and ethnicity, gender identity, religion and spirituality, disability, socioeconomic status, and other dimensions of social identity. The UCC continues to honor Stony Brook University’s rich history of the African American and Latino experience, while building upon its ongoing commitment to inclusion, equity, anti-racism, and social justice.
