Spring 2025 Semester

University Scholars Event Policy

Events are continuously added—check back often!

Attendance Requirements:

🔹Scholars must attend one event per semester.
🔹First-year, first-time students are required to attend two  events per semester during their first year.
🔹New current admits (students admitted to Scholars after starting at SBU) must attend two events in their first semester.

Eligible Events:

🔹Only events marked with a "*" fulfill the Scholars event requirement.

Participation Guidelines:

To receive credit:
🔹Arrive on time and stay for the entire duration of the event.
🔹Submit your attendance using form within 48 hours of the event.

Island Harvest Giving Garden Service Project*

Join us for a meaningful afternoon of service at Island Harvest Food Bank’s Giving Gardens! 🌱🌿 Established in 2015, this initiative brings together volunteers to grow fresh fruits and vegetables in community gardens and local farms, ensuring that nutritious food reaches those in need rather than going to waste. This hands-on experience will not only support local hunger relief but also promote healthy eating and sustainability.

Come ready to dig in, learn about urban farming, and make a difference! No prior gardening experience is needed—just bring your enthusiasm and a willingness to help. Hats, long sleeves, comfortable shoes, and sunscreen are recommended.

Seawolves in Service Week: Red Cross Cot Cleanup for Crisis Relief*

For this service project, join the Red Cross to support disaster relief efforts by cleaning emergency cots used to aid people in crisis. Your contribution will help ensure that these essential supplies are ready for those in need during emergencies. Cots will be cleaned at the SAC Plaza.

During this service project, clean up the West Meadow Beach to support our community's coastal environments. The University will provide transportation- meet between the Administration Parking Garage and the Wang Center. A hat and sunscreen is recommended for outdoor activity.

The Peace Corps is an agency of the United States government that brings together skilled, committed volunteers to serve in host communities in over 60 countries. Volunteers live and work side by side with community members to assist with local projects, build relationships, and exchange cultures and knowledge.

The Peace Corps Prep Program at Stony Brook University is an undergraduate certificate program that helps students build the competencies needed to be successful Peace Corps Volunteers and strengthens their candidacy on Peace Corps applications. During this information session, we will review the Prep Program requirements and application process.


Writing your Personal Statement*
